Overview

Merchstation has some simple objectives:
  • Rapidly scan alot of graphs to match a trading strategy
  • Implement a watch list for your favorite items
  • Bring back 5-day moving averages
  • Ability to zoom in on graph segments
  • Price / quantity calculators

I find that the most time consuming part of trading is finding suitable items to merch. Even if an item worked yesterday or last week, it doesn't mean that it will work today. Changes in market conditions mean that you need to keep track of potenital items to merch

Merchstation scans the entire market for potenital trades and brings you back a short-list of potential items. Also you can set up a watch list of your favorite items.

Runescape originally brought out 5-day moving averages as well as the daily average but for one reason or another they removed the moving averages then re-introduced 20 day moving averages. A 20 day average is suitable for long-term trading but not useful for our style of overnight technical trading, so Merchstation calculates a 5-day moving average.

One of the limitations of the Runescape graphs is that the show what happened at the last GE update. Often we find that the current trading price is different from the last GE update (up to 24 hours old). Merchstation also takes feeds from the ticker prices, giving up to the minute pricing on many items.

Merchstation saves all of the price information in a local database on your PC so it is available to you to export into a spreadsheet application or similar.
